Most of us really enjoyed the city’s first week in the Top 5 of college football, cranking up the volume on activities as the calendar signaled that autumn is here. I saw the Showtime series, “A Season With Florida State Football” and loved seeing how Jimbo Fisher and his bunch reacted to losing. It was interesting to see the Seminoles go through a practice at Waterfront Park in the pre game and enter into Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, where they were as surprise as fans were that the Cards put a 63-20 pounding on them.
I don’t see these guys having any trouble with Marshall, though there are a lot of Card fans who are wary of the state of West Virginia, remembering some rude hillbillies encountered in battles with the Mountaineers a few years back.
Two Saturdays from now, though, the national media will once again be all over the Lamar Jackson story again when Bobby Petrino’s club travels to Clemson for a matchup of Top 5 teams. Friends who went to the game in South Carolina two years ago still rave about the hospitality of the Clemson-ites — and it promises to be a difficult ticket to get. A quick check of StubHub reveals that even the bad seats are going for $200 each.
But we’re not here just to talk football – let’s take a look at the Rusty Satellite Show and the EatDrinkTalk podcasts this week.
On Rusty, I welcomed in my first guest c0-host, the energetic Caroline Knop, to talk about just a few of the things happening this weekend – from the NuLu Fest to the Louisville Brewfest. I sat down with Forest Giant’s Dave Durand to hear all about the ReSurfaced project in NuLu, the one that’s bringing a mini soccer field, fancy shipping containers and a lot of beer and food to benefit some great local organizations.
Then I met with Rick Tabb at Bowman Field, where the Eagle’s Nest there offers a great view you can’t match. Tabb runs the Bowman Field Friends group that is presenting an Aviation Festival Oct. 8-9 — and promised me a ride in a famous Red Baron bi-plane. Here’s the show:

My partner and co-host Steve Coomes snuck away to a beach vacation, so his pal Dean Corbett was glad to pitch in and co-host the EatDrinkTalk podcast with me. Dean knows about every chef in town, and provided some scoop you won’t hear anywhere else. My guest was master distiller Steve Nally from the Bardstown Bourbon Co., a unique $25 million facility just opening down there. You can read my feature on it here.
Steve talked with a local treasure, bartender Joy Perrine of Jack’s/Equus, about being inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame. Here’s the show:
Souther Egg Roll at SuperChefs
In other restaurant news, I attended the soft opening for the new Highlands SuperChefs, which is now open for dinner. It opened for breakfast and lunch in July after its St. Matthews location burned down last year. Trust me, it’s worth a trip to the chef-driven spot where Wild Strati used to be. Read about it here.
And those Pigs Feet at the top of this post: Those are the new taps at Red Hog on Frankfort Ave. It just opened yesterday. I’ll have a story on it soon at EatDrinkTalk.
